2017 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay

35.00

This vineyard sits at 1000 feet at the tail end of the Petaluma Wind Gap, and is battered by cold winds all season.  Sitting in the lowest section of the vineyard are my rows of dry farmed Chardonnay vines, notably the oldest vines on the property. The surrounding soil is rich in metavolcanic rock, ash and cobbly clay loam. These soils and the cool weather pair for a unique and amazing Chardonnay site.  Cool afternoons and cold nights allow for very slow maturity and great retention of acidity.  For the last two years this fruit has been our second to last harvest, picked just before the Mourvedre in October.   When the fruit arrives at the winery it is crushed and immediately pressed whole cluster.  The juice is barrel fermented with native yeast in neutral French oak.  Then aged on lees for 11 months before being racked to stainless steel for another 6 months of aging.  The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered.  This wine is all texture and acid that shows Chablis like focus with a touch of California richness
